Amlodipine 5 mg + Losartan Potassium 50 mg Tablets

Amlozaar contains Amlodipine 5 mg (dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker) and Losartan Potassium 50 mg (angiotensin II receptor blocker, ARB). Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle, producing peripheral vasodilation and reduced systemic vascular resistance, while losartan blocks angiotensin II (AT1) receptors, resulting in vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and decreased blood pressure. It is indicated for the management of essential hypertension, particularly in patients requiring combination therapy for improved BP control. It is contraindicated in pregnancy, hypersensitivity to components, and severe hypotension.

This fixed-dose combination provides synergistic antihypertensive action, improving blood pressure control and reducing cardiovascular risk. Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, hyperkalemia, volume depletion, and renal artery stenosis, with monitoring of blood pressure and electrolytes during therapy. Common adverse effects include dizziness, peripheral edema, hypotension, and possible electrolyte disturbances.
